Sarasota Film Festival is April 5-14

The Sarasota Film Festival is April 5-14, 2019.  Greg Kinnear, Blythe Danner, Anne Heche will be in attendance. Opening night film HERE IS MIKE WALLACE will screen at The Historical Sarasota Municipal Auditorium at 7:30p.m. Closing night film is PHIL, the directorial debut of Greg Kinnear. The Festival will honor Blythe Dinner with the SFF Icon Award and Anne Heche with the SFF Career Tribute Award. Both women will be honored before the closing night film when Greg Kinnear will World Premiere his film PHIL.

FOCUS ON FLORIDA including feature films FLORIDA WATER, SURVIVING LUNCH, EPIPHANY, PAHOKEE, ALL THERE IS: A CIRCUS STORY and short films COWBOYS & SCIENTISTS, PORTRAIT OF A SUPERHERO, and HIEROPHANY.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN SPOTLIGHT including feature films MILES DAVIS: BIRTH OF THE COOL, ALWAYS IN SEASON, TONI MORRISON: THE PIECES I AM, BOLDEN and short films ALL SKINFOLK AIN’T KINFOLK, and SHARING DAD.

LGBTQ REPRESENTATION including feature films MAKING MONTGOMERY CLIFT, CONSEQUENCES, CASSANDRO THE EXOTICO, THE UNICORN and short films CPL. BRITTANY JACKSON’S SMILE and LAVENDER.

Opening night April 5th, documentary film screening HERE IS MIKE WALLCE will include director Avi Belkin in attendance. The subject of the film died in 2012, but left a career legacy in broadcast journalism. What does it mean to be a member of the press in 2019? A panel of journalists, including director Belkins will explore the topic after the screening.

Noble Jones' directorial debut is the centerpiece film of the festival. THE TOMORROW MAN is a love story of Blythe Danner (RONNIE) and Jon Lithgow (ED) colliding and navigating the coupling. Regal Hollywood 11 will screen the film at 2p.m. on Saturday, April 13th. The film releases May 24th by Bleecker Street.

Reviewing and celebrating Anne Heche's work: DONNIE BRASCO, WAG THE DOG, JOHN Q, SIX DAYS, SEVEN NIGHTS, and indie hits WALKING AND TALKING, BIRTH, RAMPART, and CEDAR RAPIDS. The festival will award a career tribute to celebrate her work.

"The Sarasota audiences are sure to enjoy two engaging and completely different films at the start and end of our festival. Mike Wallace is a historic figure with a remarkable story, and we are delighted to have Greg Kinnear share the World Premiere of his directorial debut," said Mark Famiglio, Chairman and President of the Sarasota Film Festival. "We are honored to present awards to Blythe Danner and Anne Heche, whose work over the years have entertained audiences and who could not be more worthy of special, distinguished recognition."

In Conversation with Greg Kinnear will take place April 13th at 1p.m. @Sage.
