W.S. Van Dyke, who directed the first two Thin Man films, also directed Another Thin Man. The free film screening is open to the public and takes place at the Art Deco Welcome Center Auditorium—1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach. RSVP's are recommended by calling 305-674-1736. With art direction by Cedric Gibbons and screenplay by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Another Thin Man continues the series' elegant and detailed design and familiar snappy dialogue full of witty bantering, good humor and clever asides. The film opens with lead characters Nick (William Powell) and Nora's (Myrna Loy) return to New York City accompanied by new addition Nick, Jr. and Asta, their canine companion. Even before they've finished unpacking, an urgent call from Colonel MacFay (C. Aubrey Smith), Nora's father's former business partner, has the stylish sleuths repacking and rushing off to Long Island. Mysterious events on the way to MacFay's country estate leave no doubt that this will not be a quiet weekend and that Nick will once again be dragged out of retirement to solve a murder with Nora's assistance. The unfolding story reveals mystery, blackmail, intrigue, double-crosses and love triangles, as well as information about Nick's past and Nora's father. The plot's many twists and turns introduce a large cast of characters including Virginia Grey as Lois, Colonel MacFay's daughter. Marjorie Main shines in her small role as a landlady. The film's finale becomes a family affair when Nick's shady pal "Creeps" and assorted other cons (including Shemp Howard of the Three Stooges as "Wacky") arrive with tots in tow to throw a birthday party for Nickie Jr. as Nick cross examines suspects, reviews the evidence and reveals the murderer to the sound of the party's calliope music in the background.
