(released
2/20/2005)
By Doug Lorah
The Jewish Museum of Florida will be screening "Delta Jews" on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 7:30pm.
Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) narrates the story of how Jews arrived in the Mississippi Delta. For more than a century, the largely rural region has been home to a thriving Jewish community. The film examines how they established businesses and became assimilated into Delta society, some of them even becoming cotton farmers.
The screening is free for museum members or $6 for non-members. The Museum is located at 301 Washington Avenue in Miami Beach. For more info, call 305-672-5044 ext. 24.
