(originally released on
The documentary A Life Without Pain, recently featured on the The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America and Entertainment Tonight/The Insider, will screen in Miami for the first time with director Melody Gilbert in attendance. The film, which premiered at the 2005 South By Southwest Film Festival, features three children who literally can't feel pain.
This moving documentary explores the day-to-day lives of the children who suffer from a disorder so rare that only about a
hundred people in the world are known to have it: three-year-old Gabby from Minnesota, 7-year-old Miriam from Norway and
10-year-old Jamilah from Germany.
Director Melody Gilbert spent a year following these families coping with this enormous challenge. We discover that pain is
the gift that no one wants, but we can't live without. A Life Without Pain will show at the Miami Beach Cinematheque at 8:30 pm on Sunday, January 22nd for one screening only. Tickets are $10 or $6 MBC Members.
Melody Gilbert is an independent documentary filmmaker who shoots, directs and produces her films. She has made three
independent documentaries: A Life Without Pain, Whole, and Married At The Mall. Her controversial documentary, Whole premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and has screened in film festivals and on television around the world, including The Sundance Channel. It screened at the Miami Beach Cinematheque last year and was recently released on NetFlix. Married At The Mall has also screened worldwide.
