MDPL Presents Little Caesar
(originally released on 9/30/2005)

The Miami Design Preservation League opens its Fall Classic Film Series with a free screening of Little Caesar (1930) starring Edward G. Robinson and Douglas Fairbanks, Jr.

Directed by Mervyn LeRoy and based on W.R. Burnett's novel of the same name, Little Caesar chronicles the gangland rise and fall of Caesar Enrico (Rico) Bandello in Depression-era Chicago. Little Ceasar, credited with launching the gangster film genre, presents Robinson in one of his earliest films and most memorable screen roles.

Accompanying Rico in his violently ambitious rise to the top as he achieves the underworld version of the "American Dream" is friend and fellow thug Joe Massara (Douglas Fairbanks, Jr). Little Caesar, the first film in MDPL's Fall Classic Film Series gangsters double-feature, received an Academy Award nomination for Best Writing, Adaptation. The second featured film, The Public Enemy (1931), starring Jimmy Cagney, will screen on November 2 at 7:00 p.m.

The Miami Design Preservation League screenings are held at the Art Deco Welcome Center located at 1001 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach.
