Reinhold, Kellerman Close Palm Beach

The Palm Beach International Film Festival closed on Thursday, April 21st with the screening of "Checking Out," starring Peter Falk, Judge Reinhold, Laura San Giacomo, and David Paymer. Prior to the screening, the jury and audience awards were announced. The jury consisted of producers Jonathan D. Krane (Basic, Primary Colors, Face/Off) and Elliot P. Geisinger (Logan's Run, Amityville Horror, Child's Play) - both new South Florida residents - for features and Roger Durling (Executive Director of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival) and John Hall (Director of Distribution, Universal Studios) for documentaries and shorts.

The winning films were:

Best Feature: "The Aryan Couple"
Best Director of a Feature: Jeff Hare
Best Performance in a Feature, Actress: Laura San Giacomo
Best Performance in a Feature, Actor: Kenny Doughty
Special Jury Prize for Best Feature: "Human Touch"
Best Documentary Feature: "39 Pounds of Love"
Best Short: "Binta and the Great Idea"
Special Jury Mention: "Things That Go Bump In The Night"

The following Audience Choice Awards were announced by Sally Kellerman (MASH, Back To School):

Best Feature: "Night of the Dog"
Best Documentary Feature: "Keeper of the Kohn"
Best Short: "A Day in the Life of a Bathroom Key"

Following the awards ceremony, director Jeff Hare, actor Judge Reinhold and producer Mark Lane introduced the closing night film "Checking Out." The screening was followed by a Q&A session. Most of the questions referenced the experience of working with Peter Falk. Reinhold was asked of his current projects and mentioned that his most recent work includes Speilberg's "Into The West" and an Elliot Gould pilot. Director Jeff Hare spoke of the experience filming "Checking Out" and when asked how long it took to make the film, producer Mark Lane said, "Seventeen years."

The evening closed with a private party at The Canteen along the waterfront.
